OBITUARY - Edwin Earl Hooker
Edwin Earl Hooker was born in southwest of Lineville on January 26, 1914 and died at the family home in Lineville, Iowa, November 4, 1920, aged 6 years, 9 months and 9 days. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hooker of Lineville.
One year ago he started into school at Brush College near his home. He attended there until March of 1920 when the family moved to town. He then started school there. Soon after school began this fall he took the whooping cough and he was thought to be getting along as well as most children do with that disease. But a week ago a sore throat developed which grew steadily worse. The physician was called and Edwin put to bed but not much headway was made against this new trouble. A nurse was secured and it was thought that a turn for the better was made but it was only temporary. On Wednesday night the throat began to fill up and during the rest of the night he could speak only with difficulty. About four o'clock in the morning the nurse called the family. A little after five o'clock the loving beautiful spirit departed to stand before his loving Saviour. His death came as a shock to the entire community and the bereaved parents and relatives have the sympathy of all the people.
Edwin was a bright and lovable little chap. His first school teacher said that every time she looked at Edwin he always had a smile on his sunny face. He was greatly interested in Heaven and would ask all sorts of questions of his Aunt Mada concerning Jesus and Heaven. And there he is now seeing for himself and understanding more about the sweet joys of Heaven than we grownups do. The funeral was conducted at the home by the pastor, Rev. George Hall and a quartet composed of the nearby neighbors furnished the music. Many beautiful floral tributes were received. His teacher Miss Lorey Duden, sent a beautiful bouquet of chrysamthemums. Many other tokens of love sympathy were received by relatives and friends and neighbors. The interment was made in the Evergreen Cemetery.
"Our Sunday School suffered the loss of one of our little scholars last week in the death of Edwin Earl Hooker. He slipped away to Heaven on Thursday morning." -- George W. Hall.
Another link is severed and the family group tonight, mourn for a child and brother who made their home so bright. His little chair is vacant and we see his form no more. But we know he is with the angels on that fair celestial shore. Dear parents, cast aside all gloom for Edwin grieve no more, he is not lost unto you but only gone before. Submissive to His will bow down whose help is ever nigh that when you cross the river Death you will meet your child on high. Mrs. Hooker was formerly Miss Hinda Johnson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fielden S. Johnson of near this city. Contributed.
