bullet  Research Notes:

William lived in New Salem, Illinois as a youngster. He was well acquainted with Abraham Lincoln. The Historical Society reconstructed 12 original cabins of residents associated with Lincoln. One of those cabins belonged to Robert M. Johnston / Johnson, the Wheelwright, William Robert Johnson's father.)

The lone grave of William Robert Johnson was fenced by the Historic Society of Idaho about 1975. William and Elizabeth were retired in Napa, California, visited their three sons in Idaho. While staying with son, Moses Robert Johnson (my Grand-father) and family, William became ill. They loaded the entire family in the buckboard, tried to get him to Idaho Falls, Idaho, an 80 mile distance, for medical treatment. He died about 20 miles from the Ought-Six (Hawley Ranch) where Mose was the Foreman. They could not bury him in the frozen ground, so built a pine casket. Neighbors buried him in the spring. The family went on to the Snake River Valley, and the next June moved by team and wagon to Montana to homestead property. Elizabeth Tharp Johnson went by train to live out her life with Amy Johnson Wegner and family.)
