NEWSPAPER ARTICLE

The colorful, 9x12-foot hooked rug recently made by Mrs. 0. L. Neeper Sr., 805 N. Main St. could well be called "a thing of beauty and a joy forever."

It could also be characterized as a memorial to her patience, industry and artistic ability. The above Daily Record photo shows Mrs. Neeper and the rug.

Mrs. Neeper worked on the production of the rug for two years, off and on. She had already made about 20 hooked rugs, but they are much smaller than this latest product. She has them all over her house, and has given them to her three daughters and her son.

She makes rugs in the time she can spare from her housework and helping her husband on their farm. She has no idea how many hours she devoted to making the new 9x12 rug, but only a glance at it convinces the viewer that the amount of time was monumental.

Mrs. Neeper has never sold any of her rugs. She makes them for the pleasure which she and her children derive from them.

The new 9x12 hooked now adorning Mrs. Neeper's living room floor, features a beige background and a veritable garden of flowers in tile colors red, pink, purple, old lilac, bisque, American beauty, antique gold, blue-green, gold-green, silver-green,and yellow-green. The flowers are arranged in such a way that the colors never clash.

Mrs. Neeper drew her own design for the rug. It contains roses, morning glories, dogwood, tulips, iris, lillies, daisies and blue bells.

All new wool materials were bought by Mrs. Neeper for the rug's contruction. She made the rug on a quilting frame with a large crochet hook.
