"He could not read or write. He met his third wife at church while visiting near her home. She said he told her later that when he saw her he said to himself, there goes my wife. She seemed to find that embarrassing as she always said if she had know he was thinking such things, she wouldn't have had anything to do with him. [I never could understand why.] Anyway they met and he went back home to Waurika, OK and he courted her by mail. She said they never kissed until after they were married. Since he could not read and write he had a friend named Robert Atterberry help him." 1764
