OBITUARY
Lizette McCall Bethea entered the presence of Jesus Christ in the early morning of April 23. She was surrounded by her family at her Claremore residence, two weeks away from her 98th birthday. She was born in Memphis, TN, on May 7, 1921, the fourth of five children by City Judge John William and Lizette Kimbrough McCall.
She graduated with a BA in English and Greek from Blue Mountain College. In 1946 she married her childhood friend, Captain Ralph Chambers Bethea, Sr., who had served as a Medical Doctor in the United States Army during World War II. After living in Chicago briefly, where they had the first of their six boys, Ralph and Lizette moved back to Memphis, where he began an OB/GYN medical practice. In 1958 he and Lizette entered the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention and served for 20 years in Indonesia, India, Tanzania, and Kenya, before returning home and settling in Oklahoma, where Ralph taught in several medical schools and established a medical practice. Ralph and Lizette have lived in Claremore since 1982. They were married for 72 years.
Lizette is preceded by Ralph, who passed away on December 20, 2018 at the age of 99. She is also preceded by her parents, and by her brothers Duke McCall and John W. McCall, Jr., and by her sister, Katrina Flowers.
Lizette leaves her six sons and their wives, Ralph Jr., Mac, Jim and Stephanie, Sam and Nancy, Dave and Amy, and John Charles and Joy Lynn. She also leaves a brother, Dr. Charles B. McCall, and 24 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
A visitation honoring the life of Lizette McCall Bethea will be held at Rice Funeral Service in Claremore from 5-7 PM on Friday, April 26. Lizette will be interred on the family farm in Edwards, Mississippi, on Sunday, April 28, at 11:00. 2208
