General Notes: Martha had an unusual accident which caused her early death. Joseph, her husband was away at war (Civil War). Martha had to milk the cow. The baby was three or four months old. She left the girls alone in the house with the baby, telling them to make sure Ellen didn't put an acorn in the baby's mouth because he could choke to death on it. She wasn't out there milking the cow very long when the older girl came running out to her telling her that Ellen had put an acorn in the baby's mouth. Martha jumped up quickly, striking her head on low roof beam. She sent the girl for a neighbor to come to help. When the neighbors arrived they found her dying with her long hair tied to the bed post where she had been pulling to ease the pain in her head. 658 Martha married Joseph Foster "Soddy" King, son of Lemuel K. King and Nancy Penter, on 29 Oct 1857 in Macon County, Missouri, USA.540 (Joseph Foster "Soddy" King was born on 4 Jun 1839 in Montgomery County, Illinois, USA,374,658,659 died on 17 Jul 1914 in Bucklin, Linn, Missouri, USA 540,659 and was buried on 19 Jul 1914 in Masonic Cemetery (Bucklin, Linn, Missouri, USA) 540.). The cause of his death was Cerebral Apoplexy/Endarteritis. |
