A friend show me your site...I'll be looking at it closer. My mother Marcille Hancock Hughes, wrote storied in the Light and Champion New Paper, about Texas History, and growing up during the depression, in Shelby County Texas. I am now working on putting them into a book. Big job, but I think if she could write them I could at least record her work for the family and others. I now take care of one of her many projects, The Pine Colony Inn, located at 500 Shelbyville Street in Center, TX. I've been there 30 years now! Beautiful old historic hotel. Find us on Face Book.

In one genealogy tree I've seen in Ancestry.com, I am a descendant of William Thompson through his son Robert Thompson's second marriage. My father was Robert B Thompson whose family came to Ohio from Butler Pennsylvania. Your records claim that Robert never married. I'm curious as to which record is correct, and if I am indeed William Thompson's descendent.

Hello David,

What an incredible job you've done with this! I would love to help you complete the Stiles Genealogy to present day. We also have a family member who is working on the same line and needs help with her records. I may also be able to add information from a report created by Richard Stiles (my husband's cousin who has passed away)that goes way back and includes some interesting stories. Please feel free to contact me so we can talk about what I can do to provide for your extensive records.

Sincerely, Karen Stiles

I read your information on Francis I DeValois. Through my wife's family history, it is rumored that he had a child,Henry de la RIEUX born about 1502, with an unnamed mistress, the daughter of Marquis DE LA RUE of Orleans, France. I have never found any information to confirm this rumor and was hoping that you might be able to help me.

I have just noticed my namesake, born in the usa in 1999 on your genealogy pages. Bit of history of the names from someone born in airthrey castle nursing home (now Stirling university library) under the shadow of the Wallace monument only 9 miles from where george gillespie left Alva in Scotland in 1700 to settle in rowan county North carolina - the first gillespie in the US? Our name comes from our previous professions from as early as 1175 (gillaspeck), and means ' one (or the son of by association) who is the bishops gillie (gamekeeper), servant or solicitor' . With Kenneth meaning 'handsome' , both of us , aged 16 and 60, could be considered as ' the handsome son of the bishops servant '. The crest is ' an anchor proper' referring to solidity and steadfastness, the blazon of arms includes ' holding a dirk in readiness for brave deeds in battle, while the galley also included symbolises venture in distant lands , hence george travelling to America. Us scots are not home birds - during the recent referendum they estimated that there are 1.75 million Scots who are outside scotland and didn't get a vote (including me here in England.), against only probably 5.5 million on Scottish soil at the time. My English partner debbie, just hates me saying I am on 'missionary' work!!!!!

It would be great to hear from other gillespies across the globe - kenny(at)kennygillespie.karoo.co.uk

As scots say, awrabest for the future. Hope this helps someone.

Kenny
