Mr. G. W. Truitt: "The name chosen by the settlers and sent into the Post Office department for approval was "Brimstone Corner". This name was not approved and the department chose the name of Truittsburg after the acting postmaster. The Post Office was inside the store. This is a farming community but had a gas drilling boom in 1927"

GEORGE W. TRUITT settled on the farm of 140 acres now owned by his son, Ner, in 1848. He cleared and worked most of the land and resided there all his life. His wife, Nancy, was the daughter of William Courson, a pioneer of Clarion County, and by her he had three children: Seth C., who is residing in Clarion County; Alcinus G., deceased; and Ner M.

GEORGE W. TRUITT's father was a pioneer family of this region, settling in Madison township, where George was born, one of a family of four children, namely: WILLIAM, GEORGE W., DAVID and JAMES. George W. followed farming in Madison Township until his death. He was a Baptist in religion, and a Republican in politics. He married NANCY COURSON, and they became the parents of three children: SETH C., ALCINUS G., and NER M. [ibid, p918]
