OBITUARY
Charles Wesley Truitt was born Dec 19, 1885, Chillicothe, IL, the son of John Aaron and Olive Jane Waller Truitt. He married Miss Mary Berdelle Topping in Chillicothe, IL on July 26, 1902. Lovingly known as "Big Chief" by all his friends, Truitt was an active Shriner for many, many years, presiding as American Standard Bearer for the Oriental Band for ten years. Mr. Truitt was an Engineer for the Chicago Rock Island Railroad by the age of 17, serving the better of his career as Conductor for the C.R.I.P until just months before succumbing to cancer with his death November 25, 1942. A great story told by his Nephew, Mr. Robert Emerson, to me, his Great Granddaughter, Cathi Truitt, Steffens, is how my Great Grandfather threw hollyhock seeds from Chicago to St. Louis and how, soon, flowers adorned the route.
Charles Wesley Truitt's last rites were held at Wilton Mortuary Chapel with The Peoria Commandery in charge of Internment Chillicothe City Cemetery.
Survived by his wife, Mary Berdelle Topping Truitt; 1 son, Adrian Earl Truitt, 2 daughters, Mrs. Hazel Irene Seanor, Mrs. Allegra Colborn; 7 Grandchildren.
