After he became a young man in Indiana, he returned to Miami County, Ohio to do farm work for Harve and Hulda Rarick, his brother-in-law and sister, who lived in Miami County for a short while. He and Mary finally settled in Miami County, Ohio after living for a time in Indiana where their second daughter, Helen, was born. They had 5 children: Mildred, Rheuben, Helen, Margaret, and Mary Louise.
