Margaret "Maggie" Minnich
- Born: 15 Apr 1884, Miami County, Ohio, USA
- Marriage (1): Dr. James M. Arnold on 26 Sep 1907
General Notes:
Maggie and James later moved to Louisville, Kentucky where he continued his practice of medicine and she trained and began her career as a nurse. According to W. Keith Fisher, “Maggie evidently was very skilled and experienced nurse. I understand that at one time she was responsible for administrating anesthetics to patients being operated on in the Louisville General Hospital (only M.D.'s are permitted to this work today). After Dr. Arnold's death sometime in the 1920's, Aunt Maggie served for several years as Superintendent of the Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville. She was severely afflicted for many years with rheumatoid arthritis. She was very crippled in her later years. She visited my grandmother Melvina(Met) occasionally. I was always impressed with her sweet disposition and her expensive automobiles. I remember her Hupmobile roadster, black and trimmed in red. My mother visited her frequently when Maggie grew older. In 1942 while I was stationed with the U.S. Army in nearby Ft. Knox, I had dinner one evening at the Brown Hotel with Aunt Maggie, her long-time friend Dr. Day (a dentist), and my mother. At one time she was very "well-off" financially, but her medical expenses from the long-term treatment of her arthritis resulted in a lack of funds for her burial when she died. My mother contributed money for her burial expenses.”
